Our exploration of local Peak District locations beginning with the letter ‘H’ (a theme that runs through The H Boutique Hotel with all of our residential rooms being named after one of these locations) continues with the popular town of Hathersage…
Hathersage is a beautiful village, adored by many for its literary connections and tourist hotspots, not to mention it’s easily accessible by train on the Hope Valley Line.
North Lees Hall
Alongside Haddon Hall, North Lees Hall is said to be a huge inspiration for Charlotte Bronte’s Thornfield Hall in Jane Eyre.
Elements of the hall date back to 1594, so a walk up to view this picturesque build is sure to be the perfect day out for any history enthusiast.
People flock to Hathersage outdoor swimming pool whatever the weather due to the fact the pool is gloriously heated to 28°C all year round.
A new year’s day swim is incredibly popular and is the perfect way to begin the year feeling fresh and cleansed. With the gorgeous backdrop of Hathersage to accompany your swim, it’s easy to see why this is a particularly popular pool.
Stanage Edge is popular for both walkers and climbers alike, with views stretching out over the Dark Peak Moorlands and Hope Valley.
Stanage Edge stretches out for 4 miles, so makes for a glorious day out of walking and, if you’re inclined the take up the challenge, climbing up its high borders!
Robin Hood Connections
Hathersage is said to have several connections to the legendary Robin Hood. You can find the grave of Little John in the local churchyard and Stanage Edge is also home to ‘Robin Hood’s Cave’.
If you’re a fan of myths and legends then trailing around Hathersage to discover these locations will be sure to delight you.
