Why Bakewell is the perfect place to bring in the new year

21 January 2019

There’s never a bad time to visit the Peak District, but spending the new year within its idyllic surroundings is a particularly wonderful experience.

Here’s what makes Bakewell a particularly great place to round off the year and see the new one in.

Overindulge on Bakewell puddings

Many people see New Year’s Eve as the final night they can over-indulge on food and drink before starting the January detox. Bakewell is famous for its namesake puddings and tarts, and you can purchase as many as you like from our neighbours, The Bakewell Pudding Factory.

Not to mention that we’ll be serving up a delicious five course meal on the night. Go out with a bang on the final night of the festivities and ensure you’ve got your fill of fine dining! Explore the menu here.

Sample real ales

Bakewell is the home of Thornbridge brewery, so it’s no surprise the local pubs serve up an incredible selection of ales both local and from further afield. If you’ve been out exploring the Peak District, there’s nothing better than winding down with a pint by the fire.

Our lounge bar stocks a great selected of ales, with delights from Brooklyn Brewery to Backyard Brewhouse. We’ve got something for everyone, and if beer isn’t your drink of choice, we stock plenty of other drink options to suit your taste.

Walks along the River Wye

The phrase ‘blowing away the cobwebs’ is quite often applied to New Year’s Day activities, and there’s no better way to revive yourself after a night of overindulging than a refreshing winter walk through the picturesque Peak District surroundings.

The River Wye runs through Bakewell and makes for a wonderful walk along Lathkill Dale. If you’ve vowed to do more exercise in the new year, starting it off with a good walk is a great way to meet your goal.

Biking along the Monsal Trail

Biking is another great activity to take up if your New Year’s resolution is to exercise more. And there’s no better place to go biking than the Monsal Trail. Stretching across 8.5 miles, there’s plenty of space for you to explore.

Incredible views and plenty of wildlife make this bike journey really worth the energy! And one of our popular breakfasts will certainly set you up for the journey.
