MONSAL TRAIL FROM BAKEWELL

The traffic-free Monsal Trail is one of the easiest ways to explore the Peak District from the hotel. Join the former railway route near Bakewell Station and follow it through dramatic limestone scenery, railway tunnels and towards the Monsal Viaduct. Chatsworth Estate

Chatsworth is one of Britain’s best-loved historic houses and estates, set within the Peak District landscape. Haddon Hall

Haddon Hall is one of England’s finest surviving medieval manor houses. Dating from the 12th to the early 17th century, the house and gardens were carefully restored in the 20th century by the Duke and Duchess of Rutland. Visitors can explore its remarkable interiors, romantic gardens and centuries of Derbyshire history.
Carsington Water

Carsington Water offers several miles of well-maintained tracks that can be explored on foot or by bicycle. Three recommended circular walks begin at the visitor centre, while the nearby wildlife centre is ideal for birdwatchers and nature enthusiasts. The Monsal Trail

The traffic-free Monsal Trail is ideal for walkers, cyclists, horse riders and wheelchair users. The former railway route passes through dramatic limestone dales and several historic tunnels. Cycle hire and route maps are available locally, with options suitable for a range of ages and abilities.
Castleton and The Mines

Castleton is a picturesque Peak District village reached through the dramatic Winnats Pass. Visitors can explore Peak Cavern, Treak Cliff Cavern and nearby show caves, climb Mam Tor or discover the ruins of Peveril Castle. The area combines remarkable geology, history and far-reaching views.
Froggatt, Curbar & White Edges

Explore the gritstone landscapes of Curbar, Froggatt and White Edges in the eastern Peak District. The route offers rewarding walking and far-reaching views across Derbyshire. Dovedale

Dovedale is one of the Peak District’s best-known beauty spots. Follow the River Dove through a dramatic limestone valley filled with wildlife, wildflowers, woodland and distinctive rock formations. The Dams

Explore the Upper Derwent Valley and the reservoirs at Ladybower, Derwent and Howden. During the Second World War, 617 Squadron used the valley for low-level flying practice before Operation Chastise. Cromford Canal

Explore Cromford Canal along the towpath between Cromford Wharf and Ambergate, a distance of just over five miles. The section from Cromford Wharf to High Peak Junction is suitable for pushchairs and wheelchairs. Wheatcroft’s Wharf Café, opposite Cromford Mills, is a pleasant place to stop for refreshments.
